Protocol filters in Wireshark

Protocol filters in Wireshark

Protocol filters in Wireshark allow you to display only packets that match specific protocols. These filters can be useful when you are analyzing network traffic and want to focus on specific types of packets, such as TCP or HTTP. :

To apply a protocol filter in Wireshark:

1. Open Wireshark and start capturing network traffic.
2. In the filter bar at the top of the window, type the name of the protocol you want to filter by, such as "tcp" or "http".
3. Press Enter to apply the filter.

Once the filter is applied, Wireshark will display only packets that match the selected protocol. You can combine multiple protocol filters by using the logical operators "and" and "or". For example, to display only TCP packets that are also HTTP packets, you would use the filter "tcp and http".

You can also use Wireshark's built-in filter expressions to create more complex filters based on packet attributes such as source and destination addresses, port numbers, and packet length.
